Broken Stone Gamay Noir Aroma

Gamay wines are known for their fruity and flowery aromas. After a swirl and a sniff, I was greeted by a very fresh, light and floral initial interaction with this wine. A great start.

While the fragrance is light, there are hints of plum and dark cherry, along with an underlying earthiness in behind it all.

Broken Stone Gamay Noir Barrel Reserve 2020 on First Sip

On first sip this wine is wonderfully flavorful.

It is acidic with medium tannins. The wine is medium bodied, with a medium flavor intensity but wonderfully complex just the same.

The medium-long finish is very pleasant with just the right hint of tart bitterness, but in a good way.

While this wine is lightly oaked (which undoubtedly lends to its flavor complexity) the oak itself is certainly not dominant. However, there is a hint of oak present, which appears towards the back end of the flavors. It definitely adds to the complexity of the wine. In addition, there is a hint of peppery spice that appears on the back end of the sip as well.

The fruit that was present in the aroma tends to blend into the overall airy earthiness of the wine flavor when sipping. It all makes for a very enjoyable tasting experience.

Broken Stone Winery Notes

For the sommeliers out there, Broken Stone notes the following:

Lightly oaked for one year in fine French Oak barrels, yet lively and intense with the joyful fruitiness of Gamay Noir.

Final Thoughts: Broken Stone Gamay Noir Barrel Reserve 2020

Gamay wines are not something that I come across very often, so this Broken Stone Winery Gamay Noir was a real treat.

The great thing about this wine is that you can pair it nicely with just about any food—from pizza to steak and everything in between. The medium-high acidity and medium tannins make this Broken Stone Gamay Noir Barrel Reserve one of the more flexible wines I have encountered.

Of course, you can simply enjoy it on its own at any time as well.

With or without food, this is a light, approachable, flavorful and easy sipping wine that should appeal to a wide range of wine drinkers. If you really want to enjoy this wine at its best, serve it in a wide bowl Burgundy style of glass to get the full effect of the unique bouquet. The care and patience that went into this wine is clearly evident in the final product.

Broken Stone Gamay Noir Barrel Reserve 2020 is one you can serve with confidence or enjoy yourself at any time.
