An excellent wine for the price, delivering a great blend of bold flavors and an active personality.

Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 Aroma

After a swirl in the glass, Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon releases a bouquet of very deep and rich aromas. You may get a sense of well-done toast, ripe dark fruits and dark chocolate.

There’s a definite mood to this wine, with a very earthy type of deep smell that first captures your attention before sipping.

Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 on First Sip

On first sip, Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon is brighter than its aroma.

This wine is slightly dry and somewhere just to the right of the center when it comes to tannins. It is not overly acidic, with medium-full flavor intensity and I would describe it as medium bodied.

Overall it has a good substantial mouth feel. There is also a black pepper spiciness that comes through almost immediately. It took me by surprise, but I enjoy spiciness in wines so it was a welcome treat.

Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon is an oaked wine (aged in oak barrels for some period of time), so I was curious to see if any of the oak came through directly — beyond adding the complexity that oak aging usually imparts. After the second sip, a very light oak flavor did come through. It's a clean oak as opposed to a charred oak, but it's second to the ripe fruit flavor that mirrors that part of the aroma.

The finish on Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon is often described as smooth, but I would not describe it that way. It's a little too pronounced to be called smooth and the overall finish is medium to long. The spice of the wine drifts off nicely without lingering longer than need be on the finish.

Bread & Butter Winery Notes

For the sommeliers out there, Bread & Butter notes the following in their description:

This robust wine charms with layers of mocha, fresh berries, blackcurrant and subtle black pepper, toasted oak and rich vanilla. Round and soft with a hint of spice, soft tannins weave into a smooth and lingering finish of sweet vanilla.

Final Thoughts: Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

This is a very enjoyable Cabernet Sauvignon with a taste sensation very much its own.

WInes from this grape variety are very popular and have a well-deserved reputation as being somewhat bold and flavorful. In this regard, Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon does not disappoint. It is definitely bold, slightly spicy, earthy and flavorful.

This is an excellent wine for the price and delivers a great blend of bold flavors with an active personality. Also, if you like your red wines on the cooler side of room temperature by a few degrees, this is a great one to give a slight chill before serving. Give it a try both ways and you'll see what I mean.

As a barbecue guy, I enjoy this wine with a charcoal-grilled steak or really any kind of smoked meat or grilled protein. It also goes great with burgers right off the grill.
